AS the next fundraiser for the Bobby Lennox statue campaign draws closer, the organisers have revealed that the man himself will be there on the day.

And two of the top prizes for their raffle have also been made public. The event, which will see a classic match involving Lennox and Celtic teammates, promises to be a brilliant day for the whole family.

Dean McMillan from the campaign explained: “We chose this cinematic venue to show the Celtic vs Real Madrid 1980 game as this was the Saltcoats man’s last stand in European football on Scottish soil. We are showing the highlights of the 1967 Alfredo Di Stéfano testimonial as well since Bobby was the sole scorer and we will have the trophy from that game at the event.

“One of the greatest players of all times’ testimonial was decided by a local guy’s goal so this truly is a great piece of world football history to be shown in Saltcoats.”

The event will take place at St Matthew’s Academy on Saturday, February 24 and tickets are just £5.

Dean explained what else will be happening on the day, he added: “We will have a replica European Cup so come get photos with the trophies. We will be raffling a signed 1980 Celtic jersey and signed Artur Boruc gloves and more.

“Bobby has kindly accepted our invite and will be there for signatures and photos.

“We have kept the tickets low for all ages at £5, you can email us at bobbylennox1967@gmail.com for E-tickets or you can buy them at The Elms Bar, Cavani’s Cafe or The Castlehill Vaults Bar.

“If you have family which stay in a care home or receive care at home and want to attend then please let us know as they will get free entry. There is plenty of wheelchair access.

“This should be the last year of fundraising so we hope you can make it and we want to thank everyone that’s supported the campaign so far."
