POLICE in Saltcoats are on the hunt after a pensioner was robbed near Saltcoats Library on Thursday afternoon.

Around 3.15pm on Thursday afternoon, the 74-year-old woman was walking near to Saltcoats Library at Springvale Place, pulling her shopping trolley.

She was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her trolley and made off with it. He ran a short distance with it then removed the elderly woman's purse from it and ran off in the direction of Springvale Street.

The suspect is described as white, 18-22 years of age and around 5ft 11 inches in height.

Detective Constable Grant Currie of Saltcoats Police Office said: "Thankfully the woman was not seriously injured, however she is extremely shaken by the robbery.

"Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage to gather more information.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area around the time of the robbery on Thursday afternoon who witnessed anything suspicious, or who has information that may assist our enquiry to contact Saltcoats Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 2170 of 15th March.
