A SALTCOATS church will be closed for around three months as it undergoes a facelift.
St Mary’s Catholic Church (Our Lady, Star of the Sea), is set for an £85,000 refurbishment to the interior of the place of worship.
The Ardrossan Road Chapel will be closing at the beginning of June for a period of 12 weeks.
The announcement was made to members of the congregation in April and a meeting was held in the church last Wednesday evening for anyone to ask questions about the works.
Canon Martin Poland, who is the Parish Priest for St Mary’s as well as St John’s in Stevenston said the work was ‘needed’.
He told the Herald: “We will be renewing the ceiling with work taking place for about 12 weeks from the beginning of June. We will also have new carpets and a new sound system. It will cost around £85,000.
“It has needed it for quite a wee while now.”
