Mayfield Primary is leading the way in the future skills race as the latest round of Digital Schools were announced.

The Saltcoats school is one of 38 from across Scotland officially honoured for excellence in digital teaching and learning with the award of national Digital School status.

Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Shirley-Anne Somerville, presented pupils and staff from Mayfield with their award to recognise their use of digital technology in the classroom.

Councillor John Bell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We are always looking at ways we can support and enhance the learning environment for our young people.

“Equipping our young people with relevant and up-to-date digital skills will help them be successful both in and out of school, and also help them prepare for life after school.

“We know that the young people of today will be the pioneers of tomorrow – increasing their interest and enthusiasm for digital skills ensures they will be well placed for the years ahead.”

This is the second year of the Digital Scheme initiative and Mayfield Primary joins Beith, Dalry, Gateside and Whitehirst Park in Kilwinning who were last year named among the first Digital Schools in Scotland.

The Digital Schools Award programme was developed to support, encourage and recognise schools in their efforts to integrate digital technology across the curriculum in order to both improve the learning experience for pupils of all abilities and provide students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital economy and society.
