Ardeer Parish will shut after 117 years in operation

AFTER operating as a place of worship in the Three Towns for more than a century the bell finally tolls for Ardeer Parish Church after the presbytery announced the closure of the building this week.

Some parishioners feel as though they have been given the cold shoulder from the church, which has been a pillar of the Stevenston community since it opened almost exactly 117 years ago on Sunday, June 16, 1895. The congregation will now join the Livingstone Church.

However, a spokesman for the Church of Scotland said the congregation voted for the closure in a vote of 53 for and three against.
