"I WAS quite happy when the war broke out."
The words of James Cassidy, 92, former Royal Navy recruit from Saltcoats. "It was a great opportunity for me and young men I knew, but at that time it was a different country.
"There's no place in the world people don't know now but for me this was a chance to see the world - back then going to Glasgow was an outing.
The resident of St Mary's Place has recently released a book about his six years of service during the World War II.
