FAMILY ARE REUNITED AFTER HERALD APPEAL
AN Ardrossan family have discovered the story of their missing uncle and visited his grave almost 70 years after he was killed in France following an appeal for information in the Herald about D-Day soldier Thomas Marshall.
The Herald published a letter from Shirley Stone, from Ontario, Canada, searching for the Ayrshire-born parents of Thomas Marshall while tracing the relatives of the 15 soldiers killed in St Georges des Groseillers, in France.
After Robert Hastings (pictured on the left of the image) recognised the name and got in touch he, along with brother Ian, travelled to France with their wives on June 30 to attend a rededication ceremony in the town for their lost uncle, who was killed before they were born.
