A MAN took ill and died on the Largs to Glasgow train this morning (Wednesday).

The 09.53 Largs to Glasgow Central was stopped at Ardrossan South Beach where police and an ambulance attended.

All other passengers on board left the train and ScotRail arranged alternative transport.

Herald reporter Paul Fisher was passing the scene on his way to catch a train to Glasgow. He said: “At the station I was met with two police cars and an ambulance.

“It was obvious that something bad had happened and a member of the station staff said that unfortunately someone had died on the train.

“It had been there for about an hour or so and they were waiting for British Transport Police to attend.” British Transport Police confirmed: “At 10.30am this morning we had a report that a man had taken ill on the Largs to Glasgow Central train at Ardrossan South Beach. The man has since died.” A ScotRail spokesman said: “Our thoughts with the family and friends of the person involved. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by this sad incident.” As we went to press, services were disrupted between Kilwinning and Largs and alternative transport was being provided by ScotRail.
