AUCHENHARVIE Academy second year pupils turned newshounds last week to take part in BBC’s School Report – a project that allows 11-16 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience.
Auchenharvie was the only school to take part in North Ayrshire.
Classes were divided up into various news desks – current affairs, sport, lifestyle – and tasked with sniffing out news stories and interviewing contacts.
Stories were passed to an IT group who posted them on the school website.
There was a buzz around the newsroom as the 12.30pm deadline approached but the class took time out for a photo call with The Herald.
Social Studies teacher Bernard Hastings said: “It was a great way to introduce the kids to current affairs in a fun and exciting way.”
