POLICE, Scottish SPCA and paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service all tried to assist this baby porpoise that was found by a member of the public beached on Ardrossan North Shore on Sunday morning.

Paramedic William Hendy from Paisley was passing when a dog walker flagged him down to ask for assistance. He requested backup from the Scottish SPCA and in the meantime he and his colleague attempted to keep the animal hydrated.

William said: “We took it out to deeper water to see if its mum would come in for it.

“The Scottish SPCA arrived and we were able to put it into a pool to await a vet.” However, when the vet arrived he decided to euthanise the animal to prevent any distress.

William added: “I found out later from the police that the vet had spoken to a specialist who determined it had been abandoned by its mother.

“It was an unusual call out. Not what I was expecting on a quiet Sunday morning.” Photo kindly supplied by William Hendy.
