Repair works to the Ardrossan Island Breakwater are underway after a routine, regular survey revealed cracks and some deterioration to its condition.
The repair work includes cleaning off kelp and pouring in concrete to back fill any voids in the structure.
The work will also include the repairing of several large cracks both below and above the water level. Specialist engineering contractor Farrans Construction Limited are carrying out the repair works on behalf of Peel Ports, with Arch Henderson acting as civil engineering consultant.
Farrans are using Aberdeen Marine Services for the provision of workboats to transport the concrete and associated equipment to the Island Breakwater. The repair works began last month and could take 16 weeks to complete.
Peel Ports Clydeport is Scotland’s premier West Coast port operator, providing a wide range of port facilities and associated services.
The company plays a vital role in the country’s economic infrastructure, handling approximately 15.4 million tonnes of cargo each year through ports in Glasgow, Greenock, Hunterston, and Ardrossan.
