AN IRVINE woman has been fined after she punched a policewoman in Saltcoats Police Office.

Margaret Ferguson, 52, of Ayr Road, was seen sitting on a wall in Station Road, Stevenston, by police officers.

They noted that she was drunk and vomiting and the officers approached her as they were quite concerned and arrested her because of the state she was in.

Ferguson was taken to Saltcoats Police Office by the police and whilst they were on their way she was shouting and swearing at the officers.

When they arrived, she continued in this manner before punching PC Jardine on the face causing reddening but no medical attention was required.

Ferguson’s lawyer noted that she had been trying to make her way back to Irvine and there was disruption to the public transport due to the Queen’s Baton Relay passing through North Ayrshire throughout the day in question.

He noted that she was embarrassed with the situation and entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity.

Sheriff McDonald noted her concerns that she was so drunk that she couldn’t get home.

Ferguson was fined a total of £340 and ordered to pay £100 to the police officer she assaulted whilst in her intoxicated state.
