AS PART of the Safe Positive Communities initiative in the local area, Police Officers set up a vehicle check point on Glasgow Street and Winton Street in Ardrossan last week.

The ongoing strategy in Ardrossan is policed in a variety of different ways across the force and this check point was used to ensure that vehicles were roadworthy and to detect crime that may have been committed by drivers.

On August 13, 25 vehicles were stopped by the officers on duty to conduct checks on vehicles and driver documentation.

Two fixed penalty notices were issued to two drivers allegedly using their vehicle without valid insurance and without an MOT test certificate.

PC Kris Furey from the North Ayrshire Problem Solving Team commented: “Today’s checks were to ensure drivers had their documentation in order. We also issued advice to a number of drivers in relation to maintaining their vehicle and the importance of checking tyres and lights regularly.” Having posted this on the Ayrshire Police Division Facebook page, officers were able to reply to comments, questions and praise given by users of the page. Advice was given on documentation that you need to be able to drive and on what methods officers were using to identify any criminal activities.

Residents are urged to contact Police and report any incidents in the area by calling 101 (always dial 999 in an emergency).
