A STEVENSTON man has been ordered to pay compensation and stay away from a woman he assaulted earlier this year.

Thomas Stewart, 33, of Caledonian Road, admitted two charges at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

He was charged with assaulting a woman at an address in Stevenston by pushing her to the floor in January of this year.

Stewart also admitted recklessly destroying or damaging the property of another, without reasonable excuse or lawful authority, by kicking and smashing a television at the same address.

He pleaded guilty to both charges and was ordered to pay £400 compensation, placed on a Community Payback Order which includes attending the Caledonian Programme for a period of two years and two years supervision.

He was also placed on a non-harassment order where he doesn’t contact or attempt to contact the woman he assualted or enter the street where she lives for a period of one year.

These sentences were given as a direct alternative to a custodial sentence.
