HAYOCKS Primary in Stevenston kicked off their 50th anniversary session last week with the first of many special events to mark an historic year for the school.

One person who has held Hayocks close to her heart as both one its first pupils and later as class teacher is Mary Hutchison who has just retired after 40 years of dedicated service.

Mary was invited as guest of honour to plant a Japanese Maple tree in the school garden to mark its 50th year and celebrate her retirement.

Mary taught under every headteacher since the school opened.

Current heidie Miss McCann spoke for all the staff when she said: “Miss Hutchison will be a huge loss to the school and will be missed by the whole community, most of whom she taught.

“The school just won’t be the same without her.” On the day the school threw a party with an outdoor buffet taking advantage of the terrific weather.

Children and staff enjoyed an excellent spread provided by Sainsburys of Saltcoats.

The school would like to say a huge thank you once again to the staff of the store who continue to provide great support.
