A STEVENSTON woman has shared her childhood memories in a charming and poignant collection of stories set in the town.

Kathleen Hamilton never intended anyone to read her diaries, but her mother Kathleen’s death from cancer and her husband’s own battle with the disease inspired her to put pen to paper and create ‘An Ayrshire Lass’.

Kathleen, 64, who was born Kathleen Stevenson, writes of her early years and fond memories of family gatherings and playing on the beach.

An Ayrshire Lass is – in Kathleen’s words – a book ‘full of loving detail and stories both humorous and moving’.

Proceeds from the book will go towards a charity set up to help young Zack Truman a cancer sufferer from Grimsby whose story touched Kathleen’s heart.

Kathleen has had support from her family in the project, especially from her 10-year-old grandaughter Kerris-lee who organised a sponsored walk to raise money for Zack.

Kathleen is hosting a book launch at Stevenston Library on Thursday (September 4) at 6pm where copies of An Ayrshire Lass will be on sale.
