SEAFIELD School in Ardrossan may soon have a new owner as a closing date has been set for its sale.
The Quarriers-run school closed in July with the loss of 60 jobs due to falling demand for its services and a £400,000 deficit.
John Hill, Director of Planning and Development for Lambert Smith Hampton the Glasgow commercial property agent marketing the property told The Herald: “There has been a reasonable amount of interest in Seafield School – enough for us to set a closing date on it.” The property comprises the striking Grade B listed main building which dates back to 1820 with a floor area of around 1,500 square metres, plus a former stables and several single and two storey extensions including a gym complex.
According to the agent’s details ‘North Ayrshire Council has advised that they will consider a range of uses for the buildings and on the wider site. However, they have a policy that seeks to safeguard the retention of the listed buildings’.
There is no guide price for the sale, which has a closing date of October 3. Mr Hill said: “It would be difficult to apply a price to a property of this style.” The property had already been on the market for around 18 months prior to its closure.
