THE body found on Ardrossan’s Cannon Hill last week has still to be formally identified.
But the victim has been named locally as missing Ardrossan man John Watt.
Mr Watt had been missing for over two months when the discovery was made near to Ardrossan Castle last Tuesday morning by police officers and the mountain rescue team.
The castle grounds and surrounding area was cordoned off for the majority of Tuesday morning and afternoon before the police confirmed just after 5pm that a body had been found.
This came hours after Ayrshire Police Division put out a fresh appeal for information in regards to Mr Watt’s whereabouts early on Tuesday morning on their Facebook page.
The 53-year-old man stayed in Glasgow Street, Ardrossan, close to the Castle.
As we went to press, police were still unable to confirm the identity of the body.
A postmortem examination is still to be carried out.
Mr Watt’s family in Ardrossan did not wish to comment at this time.
