THE Saltcoats woman jailed for being a member of the gang that tortured and brutally murdered Scott Blackwood is said to be turning her hand to hairdressing and beauty therapies in prison.

Georgina Smith, now serving 12 years in Cornton Vale for the culpable homicide of tragic Scott – a man she claimed she was in love with – is training for a qualification in hairdressing.

She cuts the hair and manicures the nails of her fellow lags as practice.

But some inmates refuse to let her go near them.

A prison insider told the Herald: “She has talked about how she is keeping her head down as she doesn’t want to get into any trouble that could affect her getting out on parole.” Smith, 22, is also said to be boasting she will be out on parole in five years and her new found skills will strengthen her case with the Parole Board.

Our source said: “She is adamant she will be released in five years on parole so she is doing everything in her favour.

“She thinks by training to be a hairdresser this will look good for her when she is applying for release.” Smith was tried at Glasgow High Court alongside Allan Nicol and Thomas Moore who were both convicted of murdering Scott at Wheatley Road, Saltcoats, in July last year.

Nicol and Moore were jailed for life and ordered to serve at least 20 years each.

At the trial the jury heard that Scott was relentlessly bullied by the mob before being brutally set upon.

It was alleged that Smith once threatened to pour a mixture of boiling water and sugar over Scott for no apparent reason.

Sentencing Smith Judge Lord McEwan told her: “You have been found guilty by the jury of the culpable homicide of Scott Blackwood in a litany of horrific assaults on this young man.

“In your evidence you said you loved him, well each man kills the thing he loves and that is what you have done.” A spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service said: “We do not comment on individual prisoners in our custody.”
