A SERIOUS road traffic collision closed the B714 Dalry Road for most of yesterday Tuesday causing major disruption to early morning commuters.

The accident happened at around 7am near Holmbyre Farm causing police to close the road from the Sharphill Roundabout to the junction with the A737.

Two people, a man and a woman were injured, the man seriously.

Fire appliances from Kilwinning, Ardrossan and Dalry Community Fire Stations also attended the incident.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said: “On arrival, the operational crews found that this was a collision involving two private cars with persons trapped and injured within the vehicles.

“As a result of the incident one adult female received shoulder and chest injuries while one adult male suffered head, chest and lower limb trauma.

“The incident was severe enough to close the road completely in both directions to allow emergency services to undertake rescue of the individuals involved.

“Fire Service personnel utilised hydraulic cutting equipment to access the wreckage and free the casualties to place them in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.“ Mr Davidson added: “I would urge motorists to drive to suit the road conditions and at an appropriate speed for the class of road they are travelling on.

“Just because you may be familiar with the route does not mean you will be immune to accidents.

“It is often complacency which leads to collisions occurring on roads which drivers use on a regular basis.”
