THE WIND turned out to be the “vandals” after rumours began to circulate that the Ardrossan’s Garden of Remembrance was damaged shortly before 11am on Remembrance Day.

Our picture shows poppy wreaths on the ground on the morning of the November 11 but local Councillor Peter McNamara is satisfied that these were not vandalised.

He said: “I went down and checked it out first thing and a couple of wreaths had blown off the wall so I placed them back up.

"I checked other memorials in the town too.” Rumours started to circulate on social media before the two minutes silence to remember the fallen and the police attended at the garden and said that everything was in order.

Now Councillor McNamara wants to ensure this doesn’t happen again, adding: “We need a better place for the wreaths other than on top of the wall.

"You will have to watch this space but we will have it resolved by next year.”
