CARING kids from local swimming club Auchenharvie Dolphins have raised £1100 for British Heart Foundation Scotland and club funds at their annual sponsored swim last week in memory of a friend of the club.
The charity was suggested by two club members Katie Boyd and Jenna Edmunds who were moved by the sudden death of family friend Stephen Smith, who sadly passed away recently from a heart attack aged just 52.
The vital cash will help the charity in its fight against heart and circulatory disease – Scotland’s biggest killer.
The kids and their parents swam more than 86 miles – beating last year’s total by 16 miles.
Carole Nicol, Fundraising Volunteer Manager at BHF, said: “We’d like to thank the Dolphins for organising such a fantastic event.
“BHF Scotland can only continue its life-saving and life-changing work thanks to money raised from events like this.
“We urgently need more people to join the fight for every heartbeat in Ayrshire.” The pioneering research work funded by BHF Scotland has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease.
