Parents and grandparents of pupils at an Ardrossan Early Years Class have raised over £500 for the British Legion by knitting poppy products.

The morning craft groups at Stanley Primary began preparations earlier this year and sold their goods in the run up to Remembrance Day with the money being donated to charity.

Catherine Peter, Early Years Practitioner at Stanley Primary said: “The craft group have demonstrated great commitment and enthusiasm by knitting some fantastic products including Poppy Brooches which were then sold by the pupils.

"Our groups provide an opportunity for parents and carers to meet with staff and learn new skills which can be transferred to everyday life.” Alastair Kennedy, President of the British Legion Three Towns branch, returned to the school on Friday, November 21 to receive the cheque for £552.60.

Alastair said: “A few weeks ago we were at the school to speak with the young people about Remembrance Day and how their fundraising efforts would help.

"We were then even treated to a song by the nursery class and it has been great returning today to thank everyone who contributed.”
