AUCHENHARVIE-BASED Magnum Ice Dance and Figure Skating Club had their largest-ever attendance at this year’s British Championships.

Eight members competed invarious events at Ice Sheffield.

The highlight of the week was the Basic Novice B Ladies competition with three club skaters competing – Tegan Arnott, Chloe Dempsie and Mhari Ross.

All three skaters turned in good performances competing at the championships for the first time.

The outstanding performance of the three was from Chloe who finished third and received the Bronze medal.

Tegan finished 16th and Mhari finished 24th.

The club was represented in the Advance Novice Ladies competition by Lucy Merrilees and Ele Silvester. Both skaters produced good performances in both short and free programmes.

Ele, who was competing at her first championships, was lying in eighth position after her short and finished seventh in her free programme.

This gave Ele an overall finishing position of eighth place.

Lucy was in 14th position after her short and finished seventeenth in the free programme, which left her with an overall finishing position of 14th.

Lucy improved on last year’s championship where she finished 22nd.

At Junior level the club had two competitors – Suzi Murray in the Ladies competition and Rhuaridh Fisher in the Men’s.

Both gave good performances with Suzi lying in 23rd position after short and finishing in 24th place in the free programme.

This gave Suzi 24th overall and a good finish to the season after a number of injuries this year.

Rhuaridh was lying in sixth position after his short and finished fifth in his free programme giving him an overall finishing position of fifth place.

In the Senior Men competition, the club had Lewis Gibson competing.

Despite two good performances from Lewis in both his short and free programmes, he missed out on the bronze medal by 1.81 points and had to settle for a fourth place finish.

Lewis was lying in fourth place after his short programme but despite finishing the free programme in third place, this was not enough to move him into a podium place.
