STEVENSTON swimming champ Danielle Joyce joined her team mates from Great Britain’s deaf swimming team for a special training camp in North Ayrshire earlier this month.

Danielle – who holds an incredible seven world records – was one of 21 athletes that took part in the event at Sportscotland’s National Training Centre in Largs.

The team were joined by representatives from North Ayrshire Council, who looked on as the team were put through their paces ahead of next year’s Deaf World Championships.

As well as some tough training in and out of the pool, the GB team were recognised for their achievements throughout 2014 with an awards ceremony – with Danielle figuring heavily.

The 18-year-old completed the awards ceremony collecting certificates for her amazing achievements this year which means she now holds 18 GB deaf national records, two European Championship records, nine European Records and seven World records.

Danielle said: “It was a great weekend.

“The team were extremely grateful for the fantastic support from North Ayrshire Council and we’d also like to thank Sportscotland staff at Inverclyde, KA Leisure for the use of the pool at the Vikingar in Largs and also Brisbane Taxis who supported the team with transfers to the airport and train stations.

“Support from Ayrshire Sportsability and the NDCS made it a fantastic weekend.” Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, said: “It was fantastic that the team were here in North Ayrshire using this world-class facility which is right on our and Danielle’s doorstep.

“We work closely with Sportscotland and were delighted to play our part, supporting this vital exercise for Danielle and her team-mates.”
