A STEVENSTON man has been jailed after admitting stealing from a local supermarket in October.

Paul Aspden, 34, appeared from custody at Kilmarock Sheriff Court last week for sentencing.

The court heard his sentence had been deferred for reports, which stated he accepted responsibility of the theft and he said he had wanted to provide for his family at Hallowe’en.

Aspden’s defence agent said his client had a chaotic relationship with his wife and he was looking to draw a line under things and move on.

The roughcaster and plasterer is currently serving a jail sentence and is due for release in February.

The report stated that he had a high risk of re-offending but the time in custody had given him time to consider what has happened.

Sheriff Watson told Aspden: “Given what has happened elsewhere, I have no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence.” Aspden was given a three month sentence, to be served consecutive to his current term.
