THE Rotary Club of Ardrossan and Saltcoats resumed their weekly meetings last week and started making plans for 2015.

The first major event will be a Scots Night on Saturday, February 21.

Following the success of last year’s Commonwealth Games, Rotary clubs in the West of Scotland will sponsor one of the major schools athletics events in this year’s calendar – the Rotary International Scottish Schools Indoor Athletic Championships.

This will be held at the Emirates Stadium in Glasgow on Wednesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 5.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Rotary will be to helping to sponsor the event.

James Murray President of Ardrossan and Saltcoats Rotary said: “Rotary is all about communities. We’re delighted to support Scottish schools athletes. We see it as a legacy from the Commonwealth Games and an investment in the future of our young athletes.” Frances Fegan, Vice-President of the Scottish Schools Athletics Association, said: “We are delighted that Rotary International are supporting this event. The support from Rotary clubs throughout Scotland is very encouraging for everyone involved in sports in school communities.” More than 1000 athletes from over 200 schools will take part in track and field events at the championships. The first speaker of the year on Thursday, January 29 will be Australian Dr April Kelly to talk about her work with the Scottish Enterprise Agency. On February 12 the guest speaker will be Carol Clarkson of the Ayrshire Community Trust. The Rotary Club of Ardrossan and Saltcoats meets in the Lauriston Hotel, South Beach, Ardrossan, on Thursday Evenings at 6pm for 6.30pm.
