AFTER another accident last week on the A78 between Saltcoats and Kilwinning it has been revealed that there has been almost 100 accidents on this road in the past 10 years.  On Wednesday, January 14, just before 9pm a black Vauxhall Vectra with two people on board came off the road about a mile north of the Pennyburn Roundabout due to standing water on the road.  The vehicle was found on its roof in a ditch and the two on board were taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

This accident was not included in the list from 2004 to 2014 and was the only accident on that road so far in 2015.  In the past ten years there has been a total of 92 accidents in the two-mile stretch of road.

Of the accidents, 45 occurred at a roundabout but just three resulted in an injury with 47 accidents happening on the dual carriageway and 11 of these resulting in injury, three of which were of a serious nature.  These figures, although substantial, do not include incidents that were not reported to the police.

For example, if two vehicles collided and they decided to swap details and deal with the incident then the police would be unaware.
