THE 16TH Century has been brought to life this week, thanks to the Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society.  The castle has featured in a video, created by Mr John Edgar from TACT Ardrossan, based on the work the society had commissioned by Bob Marshall, on behalf of ACHS.

The image created by Bob Marshall represents the Castle circa 1520, and is the first of a series of images commissioned.  Amanda Simpson from ACHS said: “We are hoping to run another community-led discovery project this year, but as always this depends on having enough funds, so to help support this idea, we are also happy to announce our online donation facilities are up and running at mydonate.bt.com/charities/ardrossancastleheritagesociety.  “All support will go towards helping ACHS create new ways of supporting, maintaining, and promoting our wee Castle.

“We are seeking funding for a ground-penetrating radar survey of the land at the top of the hill, outside the fence area near the castle.

“This type of survey uses radar to detect objects underground, you’ve probably watched it being done on CSI!

"If we secure the funding, we will be looking for volunteers to assist the archaeologist in conducting the survey later in the year.”  On Tuesday, April 14 the ACHS are planning to hold a public meeting at 7.30pm in Church of Nazarene to let everyone in the community know what’s been happening in the last year, and to talk about the plans for the coming year.

Amanda added: “It really is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come along and see what’s been happening.

"To hear what kind of volunteers we’ll be needing over the next 12 months, and also, for local people to tell us what they see in the castle’s future.”
