ARDROSSAN’S blind bowling champion Irene Edgar will be going for gold in New Zealand next month – partnered by her husband Billy.

The couple will fly into Wellington on February 11 for the World Blind Bowling Championships.

And Irene will be hoping to regain the gold medal she won with Robert Conway in South Africa four years ago.

With Robert now retired, Irene teams up with Billy and they will travel with coaches David Thomas and Grace Whitton.

Last week, Cunninghame Housing Association stepped in to help fund the pair on their golden mission.

At their board meeting on December 1, 2014, Members approved a donation of £700 which was presented to Members of the North Ayrshire Blind Bowling Club on Wednesday, January 21.

Frank Sweeney, Chief Executive of Cunninghame Housing Association said: “The Association is always happy to support such applications given the dedication of the sports people involved.

“I think it is important that such efforts are rewarded with the opportunity to play at the highest level possible.

“I wish all the bowlers every success in the World Championship and throughout the 2015 campaign.”
