THE FIRST annual McLatchie Classic Adult and Junior Open Pairs Tournament was held recently in Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club.  With 16 teams taking part in the competition, the youngest of which being just six-years-old, it has been hailed as a massive success.  Colin McLatchie, who is President of the club, sponsored the contest along with his vice-president, Larry Tumilty.  Colin said: “One of the rules of the competition was that the junior player has to skip the rink.

“My idea for this is to encourage the youn players to make them feel they are in control and making the decisions during the game.  “I feel that the game being played this way is good for bonding with their parents, siblings and friends because they have to work together to make it work.”  The winners of the competition were father and son Greg and Norman McLeish. Greg is just nine-years-old and they received £80.  Colin, partnered by Blair Davidson were runners-up and received £50.  The President added: “The event was a great success and will be held at the same venue and time next year with a view to having more teams and sponsorship.”
