AN ARDROSSAN soldier has helped his regiment’s football team to win the coveted British Army Germany Cup.

Jason Scobie, 18, of 4 Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 Scots) played against 2 Battalion Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME) who were the firm favourites to win.

Jason’s team scored two goals in the first half and retained possession in the second half to see 4 Scots become the victors, lifting the trophy to the cheers of the crowd in a 2-0 win.

Sports play a big part of Army life, as the fitness and team work required to take part go hand in hand with soldiering.

Jason has played football since he was a child, and was selected for his skills on the pitch to play in the Battalion Team.

When asked about his time in the Army Jason said: “Its been great, I get to see the world, I work hard but I get time off to play football, and we play a lot of matches”.

Jason has recently returned from an exercise in Jordan where he trained alongside Jordanian soldiers.  Jason said of the experience “I really enjoyed working with them, they were a good bunch of lads and were excited to see us”.

Jason said of his three years in the Army so far: “It’s a good career choice, good pay, good lifestyle and I get to play football” 4 Scots will be returning to the UK later this year where they will be based in Catterick, North Yorkshire.

Jason said of the move: “I’ve enjoyed my time in Germany, but looking forward to going back to the UK” 4 Scots will now go on to play in the Army quarter finals in which will be held in Aldershot in April.
