STEVENSTON LIBRARY will be shut to the public for almost two months as a new ‘Employment Hub’ moves in to the building at the heart of the town.  From April 20, the improvements will start and the library is due to reopen on June 15 as the planned works take place.  Previously it was rumoured that a Job Centre would be moving into the building but this was dismissed by North Ayrshire Council and they have said that the ‘Hub’ will be an improvement to facilities that are currently available.  A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “Due to refurbishment works the library will be closed for eight weeks between Monday, April 20 and Friday, June 15.

This will allow planned improvement works including ICT upgrades and improvements to the library’s decor to take place.

“A new Employment Hub will also be created which will enhance the existing library facilities and services will offer support with ICT access and skills. Partners such as Ayrshire College will also provide information and advice on employment, benefits, finance and training.

“A mobile library service will be in operation while the refurbishment works at Beattie Library are ongoing to enable residents to access the same range of books, talking books, CDs and DVDs which are usually available.

“Alternative libraries offering free computer access are available at Saltcoats, Ardrossan, Irvine or Kilwinning.” The mobile library will be in the Debra car park across the road on the following dates: April 20, 22, 23, 27, 28 between 10am-3.45pm and April 24 between 10am-3.30pm; May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 between 10am-3.30pm; May 7, 11, 12, 18, 20, 21, 25, 26 between 10am-3.45pm; June 1, 3, 4, 8, 9 between 10am-3.45pm; June 5 and 12 between 10am-3.30pm.
