A man was arrested after a 12 hour siege drama in the centre of Ardrossan on Tuesday (April 14).

Police arrived at the short stay hostel in the town’s Princes Street around 11.50pm on Monday after reports of a disturbance.

They discovered that a man had barricaded himself in his room and was threatening to self-harm.

Specially-trained officers, including police negotiators, were called to the scene as the man perched on a window ledge.

Princes Street was closed to traffic until the man finally surrendered to police around 11.20am on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: “The male was uninjured and taken into police custody.

“He was then taken to Crosshouse Hospital for a medical assessment.” For the full story see this week's Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald.
