WEATHERMAN Sean Batty will set off on a four day cycle challenge in June to raise money for the STV Appeal – taking in both Arran and Ardrossan.

The Sean Batty Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge will see him cycle more than 168 miles from Tarbert to Dunbar, coast to coast across Scotland.

In each town he passes, Sean will be looking to meet STV Appeal fundraisers in the local community and get as many supporters involved in helping raise as much money as possible for children affected by poverty in Scotland. STV’s cameras will be there to capture all the activity for an STV Appeal programme later in the year.

Sean will leave Tarbert and arrive on Arran on Thursday, June 11, cycling through Lochranza, Sannox, Corrie and Brodick before catching the ferry to Ardrossan, where he will spend the night.

The next day, he will head off towards Kilmarnock, then Edinburgh before finally reaching Dunbar on Sunday, June 14.

Sean said: “This is year five of the STV Appeal and I’m looking forward to yet another challenge, and this year I’m back in the saddle.

"In previous challenges I’ve cycled the Western Isles, Northern Isles and from Glasgow to Edinburgh three times, clocking up over 400 miles.

“I will be taking that mileage to over 500 with the latest challenge.

"I’m hoping, as in previous years that we get lots of schools, organisations, businesses and individuals involved along the way with their own fundraising events which I can visit. It is always good to get a wee break and a wee cuppa along the way.” Elizabeth Partyka of the STV Appeal said: “Sean has been an incredible ambassador for the charity since the launch of the STV Appeal five years ago. It has been overwhelming to see communities across Scotland come out and lend their support to the Sean and the Appeal over the years.

"I hope everyone from Tarbert to Dunbar will help fight child poverty right here in Scotland and get behind Sean’s efforts in this challenge.” If your school, business or community group would like to get involved with Sean’s Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge this summer and help raise funds for the STV Appeal, please get in touch with Ami Anderson on ami.anderson@stv.tv.
