FOUR leading lights from the Scout movement in North Ayrshire have been honoured in the recent Scouts Scotland Annual Awards at Paisley Abbey.

Arthur Taylor from Saltcoats who is currently Treasurer of North Ayrshire and Arran District has been awarded the Silver Acorn for distinguished service to the Scout movement for over 40 years.  Arthur, 71, joined Saltcoats Scouts at eight years old and rose to Group Scout Leader at Saltcoats and also served as Scout Leader at Stevenston.

He has been District Treasurer since 2000, firstly with Cunninghame North and later North Ayrshire and Arran district.

Arthur is said to keep a very tight grip of the district purse strings and ensures the accounts always balance at the end of the financial year.

As well as his accounting skills Arthur also has an array of practical scouting skills and runs training in knotting and compass and map reading.

Three Beith Scout Leaders were awarded the Queen’s Scout Badge – Jack Smith, Andrew Isbister and Scott Bennett.
