A MUCH-LOVED head teacher said ‘adieu to you and you’ at a farewell concert at St Anthony’s and St John’s Primary Schools in Saltcoats last week.

After 15 years in the top job at St Anthony’s, Kevin Howell is now looking forward to no more early mornings travelling to work from his home in Barrhead.

Kevin started his teaching career at Holy Family Primary School in Port Glasgow in 1979 and became head teacher at St Anthony’s in 1999, later becoming co-head of St John’s in 2013.

To mark Kevin’s retirement, the school staged a special goodbye concert featuring memorable performances of show tunes including – very appropriately – So Long Farewell from The Sound of Music.

Mr Howell, 57, said his time at St Anthony’s and St John’s had been ‘fulfilling’.

He plans to spend his retirement gardening and cycling.

“My special memory of St Anthony’s and St John’s will be working with everyone connected with the schools.” For the full story see this week's Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald.
