CALEDONIAN MacBrayne workers are planning on further industrial action next Friday, it was announced today.

The RMT Union announced that the further strikes would take place after three-days of industrial action, including a 24-hour walk-out took place late last month.

Discussions between the ferry operator and the union were due to take place but were called off by CalMac due to unforeseen circumstances.

CalMac Ferries, managing director, Martin Dorchester said: “We are extremely disappointed that the RMT has chosen to continue with strike action. The best way to protect the existing terms and conditions of its members is to work with us to ensure we win the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Service contract and this action is damaging.

"We are anxious to avoid any more disruption which is not in the best interests of our employees and the communities we serve and would urge all our colleagues to turn out for work.” The other union, TSSA, which represents around 100 members of staff, have sent out strike ballot papers as more action is looming.

More on this in next Wednesday's paper.
