A 63-YEAR-old man from Saltcoats was rushed to hospital after he was attacked in his own home last week.

At 3.20am last Wednesday morning the man was awoken by the sound of someone in his Dalry Road home.  When he got up to investigate he discovered the unknown man inside his house.

The intruder then launched a brutal attack on the man with a weapon before fleeing the property.

Police have revealed to the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald that the victim was seriously injured in the attack and was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

Hospital staff say he is battling serious injuries but are now describing his condition as stable.

Detective Inspector William McDicken said: “This was a very violent attack on a man within his own home which has left him with serious injuries.

“Even though it happened in the early hours of this morning there may still have been people out or traffic passing along Dalry Road.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious or noticed a man matching the description or any vehicle to contact police on 101.
