AFTER we revealed last week what the top baby names in North Ayrshire were, this week we focus on one Saltcoats tot who has one of the most unique names in the area. Little Theia Thorirsson, who is just six months old, is named after a planet which was in the solar system billions of years ago. Theia, pictured, with her dad Kris and mum Tracy, lives in Saltcoats and her parents met through a mutual friend and their common interest in the solar system and space ignited a spark in their relationship. After moving to Saltcoats from Glasgow recently Tracy is keen to get together with other like minded people to discuss the wider universe. The 37-year-old, who is in the middle of studying for a degree in Planetary Science, explained the name choice.
She said: “We decided to name her after the fifth rocky planet which was part of our solar system while it as still forming, billions of years ago. It was named Theia, it smashed into the earth and the debris from it became our moon.
“We both hope she has as big an impact on the planet as her namesake.
“Most people think her name is lovely and are interested to know where it came from and the background behind it.
"I’ve only ever seen an actress from years ago with the same name so it’s quite unique.” Tracy has two other children, Nadia and Steven, who both have a keen interest in science and she hopes that little Theia will be the same when she gets older and understands where her name came from.
