EVOLUTION Skatepark Scotland held a successful free family fun day to celebrate its tenth birthday on Saturday, September 19. The park was host to much of the local community who had a great day in and around the park. Hoots Forever Home came along with their birds and animals, Little Horn the pygmy goat proved a huge attraction and the public learned all about the good work “Hoots” do rescuing animals. Fun & Games provided the inflatables and Maxine’s Gymnastics kept kids bouncing all day. Evolution showcased its talents with demos in the park from West Coast Shift Free Runners who also brought with them some circus/juggling performers, memorising the crowd, local kids then had a chance to take part in taster sessions in the afternoon, proving very popular. Krav Maga fighters then took the limelight – kids and adults performing some martial arts/combat skills, also running ‘come and try’ sessions afterwards. Some funky moves went down from Dance Mafia local dance troop, with the tiniest, cutest dancers ever! Dance Battles wowed the crowd from these very cool youngsters. Evo’s own Demo Team showed off their skills with BMX’ing, skateboarding, inlining and scootering, showing all they have learned over the years at the park. The Film School that ran over the summer also showed their film work ‘Skate Park Stories’ to parents and public across the course of the day. Stalls with face-painting, raffles, baking, bottles and aromatherapy candles kept all the parents busy whilst children rode the park. Sainsburys provided a buffet for our hungry staff and dignatories. A whole host of helpers and volunteers turned out in force to help at Evolution, without whom this day would not be possible. They ended the day with a slice of an amazing birthday cake made by volunteer Joe Morrison. They are still aiming to cover the facility to allow us to provide more activities for young people in the local community. If you are interested in volunteering at the park as a director or just to help when you can please get in touch.
