A COUNCIL is investigating a restaurant which claims to be selling aardvark pizza - as food inspectors were apparently seen there demanding information.

The dish, also containing chicken, lamb and chillies, is being sold at the eaterie in Kilmarnock.

Head chef Anser Anton, 43, went public with the bizarre meal on Wednesday saying he ''wanted to bring unique flavours to the people''.

But, on the same day, East Ayrshire Council said they were investigating the diner.

And at 3pm on Wednesday a woman in a white coat and hair net was seen talking to staff.

One customer in the shop said the woman said she was inspector - but when questioned staff back tracked on the content of the pizza.

The customer said: ''It was really bizarre.

''A woman in a white coat and a hair net said she was an inspector and wanted more information on the aardvark pizza.

''She said she needed to know where it was from and if they had documentation.

''The staff member was saying it was only called an aardvark pizza, there wasn't actually aardvark in it.

''He said it was just spicy mince, chicken and lamb.''

A council spokesman said: "Officers will be fully investigating this matter to ensure that the restaurant owner is complying with all relevant legislation."
