West Kilbride artist Ewan Douglas has won the £250 Turcan Connell Prize at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour 135th Annual Exhibition.
Ewan studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1963 to 1967 and after two years in ‘The Experimental Section 5’, William Armour (then head of drawing and painting at GSA) recommended that he studied drawing and painting.
He has won several awards and exhibited regularly in selected group exhibitions.
Talking about the award-winning painting Lock II, Ewan revealed: “It’s a work developed from many visits
to the beautiful area around Crinan and the fascinating canal.
“As the work developed, the bits and pieces of lock paraphernalia gleaned from many sketches done over years came to mind.
“That led me to the unexpected outcome which is Lock 11.”
The exhibition at the RSA Building in Edinburgh is open until December 12.
It features more than 300 works by leading and emerging artists from across Scotland.
The exhibition also includes works by new graduates from the 2015 Degree Shows as well as the invited artists Stuart MacKenzie RSA and Peter Randall-Page.
