POLICE in North Ayrshire are on the hunt after a local man was rushed to hospital after a serious assault in Largs at the weekend.

Shortly after 1am on Sunday, February 18, a 27-year-old man, believed to be from West Kilbride, was reported to be unconscious outside The Lounge in the town’s Main Street.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was taken to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital suffering from a serious head injury.

He has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff describe his condition as serious. Enquiries carried out so far indicate the man had been assaulted.

Detective Constable Grant Currie said: “We are in the initial stages of the enquiry and we are trying to establish the circumstances of what has happened and exactly where it happened.

“A young man been attacked and has suffered a significant head injury. I am appealing to people who were out and about in the Main Street in Largs to contact us.

“Perhaps you saw something which didn’t seem important last night but in light of the attack on this young man, your information could prove vital to helping us establish what has happened and trace whoever is responsible for this attack. Please do contact us.”
