A total of eight West Kilbride Primary 6 & 7 pupils competed in the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championship in Kirkcaldy recently.
This is the most prestigious event in the cross country calendar and pupils from all over Scotland train all year round for this event.
North Ayrshire schools have never had anyone on the podium, however this year was different.
With more than 600 competitors in each primary category, racing across hills over the distance of 1.8km, two West Kilbride pupils from P6 achieved silver medals: Harris McNicol and Nell McGregor.
This is an excellent achievement and one which their fellow pupils, parents, families and friends are very proud of.
There were four other P6 girls and two P7 girls who also participated in this fabulous and very tough event from West Kilbride Primary who were all proud of their own individual achievements too.
They were Maddie MacGregor, Mia Hardy, Aiobha Ballard, Zoe Matchett, Alice Lynn and Naideen Daily.
Harris and Nell train three times a week with North Ayrshire Athletics Club which has helped them turn their dreams into this reality.
Their club coaches are totally ecstatic with their performances and obviously all the other athletes who train with them too.
