PLUG PULLED ON POWER STATION
AYRSHIRE Power Limited have pulled the plug on their controversial plans to build a coal-fire power station at Hunterston.
The planning application to build the £2 billion multi-fuel power station with carbon capture and storage technology was withdrawn yesterday (Tuesday) due to financial issues.
The project had received criticism from conservation groups such as WWF, RSBP and Communities Opposed to New Coal at Hunterston (CONCH) and in November North Ayrshire Council rejected the planning application after it received more than 20,000 objections. The decision means the planned a public inquiry in October will not go ahead.
