ARRAN man Calum McNicol will help lead an attempt to smash the world record for rowing across the Atlantic Ocean.

Calum will join a crew of eight to battle sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion and roasting hot temperatures to make four record-breaking attempts in January.

The 38-year-old said: "Within the ocean-rowing world there is a race to be the first boat to cross the North Atlantic Ocean in less than 30 days - this is the 'four minute mile' of ocean rowing."
