KILWINNING’s matchstick marvel Jim Miller’s latest project – a model of Portencross Castle – now has pride of place in the castle’s Great Hall.
Jim used around 15,000 matchsticks and 300 lollipop sticks to construct the scale model spending three months on the task.
The 53-year-old retired banker has completed more than 90 matchstick models to date, mostly of churches.
Portencross Castle is enjoying a busy summer with many interested visitors discovering the historic monument for the first time.
Daily opening continues until the end of August and then weekends, including the local holiday Monday, until the end of September when it closes for the winter. Hours are 11am-4pm with last entry at 3.45pm.
Entry is free although the project depends on donations from visitors to keep the building open and safe.
