Scottish Junior Cup Second Round

ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS 7

DEVERONSIDE 3

ROVERS were in seventh heaven as they coasted to victory in this re-arranged tie.

The hosts had Michael Wardrope back in goal and they a made a number of positional changes.

This match started the way it continued for 90 minutes with play raging from end to end.. 'Side had the first chance in the opening minute when player manager John McLeay had a shot blocked then cleared.

Within a minute Iain Reid shot across the face of Bruce Thompson’s goal following some good lead up play by Ryan Caddis as Winton looked for an early goal.

The home side went ahead in five minutes when Michael Holden played a great ball to Jared Willet whose shot wasn’t held by Thompson and John Bradford, following in forced the ball into the net.

The visitors then enjoyed a good period of possession.

Firstly Damian Wojcik shot over the bar in the seven minutes and a minute later McLeay shot across the face of goal after hesitation in the home defence.

Robbie Cochrane was booked before Winton doubled their lead in 26 minutes when Caddis picked up a pass from Willet down the left ,raced into the box and squared to Reid who made no mistake from six yards.

Five minutes later Winton looked to have the game sewn up when they took a 3-0 lead. Bradford picked up a pass on the edge of the box and played the ball into the box where Caddis was on hand to fire home from 15 yards.

Deveronside hit back immediately and slack defending allowed Wojcik in to shoot across Wardrope and into the net.

The visitors scored next when a blocked ball rebounded over the defence to Euan Clark all on his own on the edge of the penalty area and despite being forced wide, he shot past Wardrope from a tight angle to make it 3-2 in 38 minutes.

A flare - up after a foul on Willet just outside the box saw Ian Reid and Ryan Caddis for Rovers and Coco Legge, Jamie McKinnon and goalkeeper Bruce Thompson of the visitors all shown yellow cards.

Rovers doubled their advantage in 49 minutes when Reid ran down the left before playing the ball to Caddis who chipped the ball over Bruce Thompson as he came out to narrow the angle.

Bradford should have got his second and Winton’s fifth goal two minutes later when Caddis picked up a great ball over the defence from Darren Miller before squaring to the former Kilwinning Rangers striker. But although Thompson had left his goal to close down Caddis he somehow got back to get in the way of John Bradford’s shot from 10 yards into what had been an empty goal. He could however do nothing about the fifth goal in 62 minutes when Caddis ran on to a good ball in from Ben Carson beat Thompson at his near post again, shooting into the far side of the net as the keeper came out for his hat-trick.

A minute later Willet and Ben Carson were both booked.

Rovers made it the round half -dozen in 70 minutes when Caddis back-heeled a good ball into the box into the path of Bradford who made no mistake from 10 yards for his second goal to make it 6-2.

Rovers' final goal came in 79 minutes when some good possession football on the edge of the box ended with a good pass to Dean Richardson in the goalmouth and he shot home.

The visitors, however had the last say with a well-taken opportunist effort from substitute Joel Watt who lobbed home from 25 yards but Winton were well worthy of victory.
