ARDROSSAN ACCIES 48

HILLHEAD/JORDANHILL 19

THE ACCIES team sheet showed several changes from the last few weeks with ,Jack Anderson started at 10 along with the return of Jamie McKee at inside centre.

There was also a first home start for Indian national player Sam Dagar in the second row, while fellow countryman Vikas Khatri was on the bench.

In perfect conditions, Jack Anderson started the match, and the visitors receiver kicked the ball to touch,, giving Accies the first lineout.

Euan Thomson threw to the tail and the ball was quickly moved across the pitch to Stuart Lewis who carried into the opposition 22. Hillhead were penalised and Anderson kicked for an attacking lineout. A Stuart Lamont tap down released Ben Hamilton to drive into the Hillhead defence, quick rucked ball and another forward surge was finished with Gordon Telfer touching down for the first of his three tries. Anderson added the additional points by converting a difficult kick to put his side on seven points after six minutes.

Accies' pressure finally paid off after a driving maul from a lineout was finished off by Stuart Lamont scoring with another touchline conversion by Jack Anderson and Accies were now 14 points in front after 15 minutes.

After 20 minutes, Hillhead managed made it into the Accies 22 for the first time where they were awarded a penalty , their attacking lineout however was well defended by the home side and the danger averted. Accies open side flanker Jamie Thomson was becoming prominent both at the lineout and loose play, although relatively light in stature, his tackle count is considerable and he constantly makes a nuisance of himself at the breakdown.

As the visitors struggled to get a foothold in the game Accies scored their third try - a Stuart Lewis kick up field was chased by Jamie McKee and Jamie Thomson who stripped the Hillhead defender of the ball, quick release allowed Andy Duncan to go in for the try. The conversion was missed.

Accies domination of possession was again rewarded on the 34th minute when Jason Dagledenis broke up the left wing his pass found Robert Hunter who sped in for the fourth and bonus point score. Again the accurate boot of Jack Anderson kicked the conversion.

In the last play of the half Hillhead scored, from a scrum the ball was transferred to inside centre Scott Halliday who barged over to score.A.J. McFarlane converted.

From the visitors' kick off, Accies "go to man" Gordon Telfer caught the ball and charged up field, quick recycled ball released the backline but a forward pass stopped another try being scored.

Hillhead were beginning to make life difficult for the Accies set- piece and it was from a home scrum that they scored their second try, when Richie Graham finished off a forward drive to touch down. The conversion was missed.

Accies were also beginning to fall foul of the referee conceding far too many penalties. Eventually a yellow card was produced and Andy Duncan was sent to the sin-bin.

With the hosts reduced to 14 men the visitors soon took advantage after, a quick penalty tap by A.J. McFarlane caught the home defence flat-footed and he scored at the posts. He also converted.

Allan Wilson came on at 10 with Anderson moving to inside centre and Khatri at 11.

Accies stopped the Hillhead revival after Gordon Telfer scored his side's fifth try. A typical piece of Wilson magic saw him ghost through the visitors' defence, and his pass out of the tackle found Telfer in close support who scored. Anderson converted.

Try number soon followed. A huge Wilson kick was chased up field by Dagar who managed to charge down the attempted clearance, quick " take and give" ball reached Duncan who score. Again Anderson converted.

The home side were now on 40 points with 10 minutes remaining.

Jack Anderson kicked a penalty three minutes later and Hillhead's number 14 was yellow-carded.

With two minutes left, Telfer scored his third try. He gathered inside his own 22 and sprinted up field, several "dummies" and frantically looking for support from the fast men, he had to go all the way and touched down albeit somewhat exhausted to score. The conversion was missed.

This was a good team performance by the Accies.
